Salem Police Arrest Two Men, Juvenile on Multiple Charges Following Pursuit

JOSUE PORTILLO of Salem is facing multiple charges stemming from an incident on Thursday. A photo of defendant Anthony Traficante is unavailable due to his failure to comply with the booking process.

Chief Joel Dolan reports that the Salem Police Department arrested two men and a juvenile on multiple charges following a foot pursuit on Thursday.

ANTHONY TRAFICANTE, 19, OF SALEM, is charged with:

  • Breach of Bail (Misdemeanor, Three Counts)
  • Theft by Unauthorized Taking (Misdemeanor, Two Counts)
  • Criminal Mischief (Misdemeanor)
  • Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor)

JOSUE PORTILLO, 18, OF SALEM, is charged with:

  • Simple Assault on a Police Officer (Enhanced Misdemeanor, Three Counts)
  • Resisting Arrest or Detention (Misdemeanor, Two Counts)
  • Theft by Unauthorized Taking (Misdemeanor)

A JUVENILE is charged with:

  • Resisting Arrest and Detention (Misdemeanor if Committed by an Adult)
  • Loitering and Prowling (Violation)
  • Possession of Tobacco (Violation)
  • Possession of Controlled Drug (Misdemeanor if Committed by an Adult)
  • Receiving Stolen Property (Misdemeanor if Committed by an Adult)

On Thursday, Dec. 30, at about 2:50 p.m., Salem Police responded to a report that multiple people were breaking into cars at Lancelot Court. Prior to the officers’ arrival, the three suspects fled into the woods toward Soule Elementary School.

Responding officers immediately set up a perimeter and began to search the area. Following multiple foot pursuits, officers arrested three suspects, later identified as TRAFICANTE, PORTILLO, and the JUVENILE, with assistance from a deputy from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.

An initial investigation, Salem Police Department determined that multiple personal property crimes were committed during this incident. The subjects also were found in possession of a delivered package that had been stolen from a home in Salem.

TRAFICANTE was discovered to have multiple outstanding arrests warrants for his arrest, on charges of Sale of Controlled Drugs in relation to cases investigated by Salem Police Department Detectives.

TRAFICANTE was held without bail. He was transported to the Rockingham County Jail for arraignments in Rockingham Superior Court and Salem District Court on Monday, Jan. 3.

PORTILLO was held without bail. He was transported to the Rockingham County Jail for arraignments in Rockingham Superior Court on Monday, Jan. 3.

The JUVENILE will be arraigned in Rockingham County Family Court at a later date.

The investigation by the Salem Police Department is active and ongoing, and further charges are possible.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
