Chief Joel Dolan reports that a Massachusetts man is facing drug and firearm charges after allegedly following another man to a local pharmacy and providing officers with a fake name.
NICHOLAS COLBY JEWETT, AGE 29, OF WOBURN, MASS. was charged with:
- Possession of a Controlled Drug (Prescription Medication) (felony)
- Disobeying an Officer (two counts)
- License Prohibitions
- Operating After Suspension
- Armed Career Criminal (felony)
- Felon in Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (felony)
- Changing Marks on a Handgun
On Wednesday, Aug. 26 at approximately 6:05 p.m., Salem Police were called to the Rite Aid on South Broadway for a stalking complaint. The caller reported that he was checking into a local hotel when an unknown man had approached him and asked him personal questions. The unknown man then followed the caller to the Rite Aid parking lot. When police arrived and attempted to pull over the suspect, later identified as JEWETT, he drove away and traveled a short distance down Route 28 before pulling over. JEWETT allegedly gave police a fake name and had a fake license on his person, and taken into custody after a brief struggle. Though he refused to cooperate during the booking process, Salem Police were able to identify JEWETT by his tattoos.
After a search warrant for the vehicle was granted, police found two handguns (one with a destroyed serial number) and numerous items related to identity theft, manufacturing fake IDs, fraudulent credit cards and stolen property. The vehicle was also found to have a fake Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and determined to have been stolen from a dealership in Woburn, Mass. within the last week.
The investigation remains ongoing and further charges are expected.
JEWETT is scheduled for arraignment today, Friday, Aug. 28, at the Rockingham Superior Court.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
