SALEM, New Hampshire — Chief Joel Dolan reports that Salem Police Department arrested a Massachusetts man after a motor vehicle pursuit, during which the suspect struck two other motorists’ vehicles.
NATHANIEL JACQUES, AGE 34, OF WAYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS has been charged with:
- Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon (felony) (three counts)
- Receiving Stolen Property in excess of $1,500 (felony)
- Disobeying an Officer
- Reckless Operation
- Resisting Arrest
- Driving After Suspension
- Conduct After an Accident
JACQUES also had an outstanding extraditable arrest warrant issued by Wayland, Massachusetts Police.
On Thursday, Sept. 24, at approximately 10:30 a.m. Salem Police Officer Cody Sharpe located a stolen Jeep Cherokee in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven on Main Street. When Officer Sharpe approached the Jeep on foot, the vehicle reversed out of a parking spot and Officer Sharpe was forced to move out of its path.
A brief motor vehicle pursuit followed and was ultimately terminated out of concern for the safety of the general public. However, police located the vehicle again in the parking lot of Kensington Place on Cluff Road, parked on a lawn at the complex.
The driver drove forward, nearly struck an officer, and ran over a spike strip set up at the entrance to the complex by police.
The vehicle proceeded on Cluff Road, ran a red light at the intersection of Cluff Road and South Broadway/Route 28 and struck two other vehicles. The suspect, later identified as JACQUES, fled the vehicle on foot and was ultimately apprehended and arrested by Salem Police.
No one was injured in the incident. All three vehicles were heavily damaged.
JACQUES was held without bail at Rockingham County Jail and was expected to be arraigned at Rockingham Superior Court today at 1 p.m.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
