SALEM, New Hampshire — Chief Joel Dolan reports that the Salem Police Department arrested a Massachusetts man after a Salem resident was allegedly robbed at gunpoint earlier this month.

DERICK MONCION, AGE 19, OF HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS has been charged with:

  • Robbery; with a Firearm (felony)

On Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1:09 p.m., police responded to a report that a Salem resident had been robbed at gunpoint. The victim had agreed to sell multiple pairs of footwear to an individual through Snapchat and met the suspect, later identified as MONCION, in person on Brady Avenue earlier that afternoon. MONCION was also accompanied by two other people.

When the meeting occurred, MONCION allegedly took out a gun and threatened to shoot the victim if he did not hand over the items that had been for sale.

The victim was not injured, nor were any other injuries reported following the incident.

Salem Police conducted an investigation following the incident, and collected sufficient evidence to request and obtain an arrest warrant for MONCION.

On Monday, Oct. 12 at 12:55 p.m. Officer Jake Genest was on patrol duty and observed a vehicle believed to be connected to MONCION. Officer Genest investigated and ultimately arrested MONCION in the parking lot at 526 South Broadway without incident, on the warrant obtained following the Salem Police Department’s investigation into the alleged armed robbery.

MONCION was processed at the Salem Police Department and held without bail at the Rockingham County Jail for an arraignment at the Rockingham County Superior Court scheduled for today at 1 p.m.

This incident remains under investigation by the Salem Police Department, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Mike Geha at 603-893-1911.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
