Police Chief Joel Dolan reports that Salem Police have arrested the driver whose car struck a home over the weekend, seriously injuring a child inside.
SCOTT DOWD, AGE 37, of SALEM, was arrested on Tuesday, July 13, and charged with:
- First-Degree Assault, Victim under 13 with Serious Bodily Injury (Class A Felony)
- Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, with Serious Bodily Injury (Class B Felony)
- Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon, 3 counts, (Class B Felony)
DOWD will be arraigned in Rockingham Superior Court on a date to be determined by the Court.
On Saturday, July 10, at about 2 p.m., Salem Police received multiple 911 calls about a motor vehicle crash on Silver Brook Road. First responders arrived to discover a 2019 Acura RDX traveling southbound on Silver Brook Road had left the road and crashed into a home, then multiple bushes and trees.
First responders determined the driver, later identified as DOWD, was trapped in the car, and removed him through the windshield.
First responders also learned that a 5-year-old female inside the home had been seriously injured.
The Salem Fire Department transported both DOWD and the child to Lawrence General Hospital. DOWD was released several hours later. The child was transported by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital. She underwent emergency surgery, and remains at the hospital in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation by Salem Police.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
